ABOUT ME

My tennis journey

Family Comes first. I have three wonderful kids Chanse 20 attending Texas A&M, Caroline 18, and Charlie 16 attending Memorial High School. I met my wife Molly on a tennis court in Galveston twenty five years ago, and were still going strong. I have two dogs Shenanigan's and Bruce. I love my woofers, but they are both yahoos for sure.

My mother and sister are both successful Teachers in Houston Texas. I have one Nephew Lance (5) who I adore.

I am a Native Texan originally from San Antonio. My Uncle took me to play at the local neighborhood courts when I turned 8. I spent many hours with my trusty Wood Wilson Legacy on the backboard down the street. The backboard never lost, but it made me better.

My mom recognized my natural enthusiasm for tennis and got me into a clinic at Windcrest Tennis club. I met my first real tennis pro Sandy Samuelsson at Windcrest. I owe a great deal to Sandy: my swings (including my one handed backhand), my spin skills, my ability to serve big, and my teaching style were all heavily influenced by Sandy. "When the student is ready, the right teacher appears" My right teacher was definitely Sandy.

My family moved to the Spring Branch area of Houston in 8th grade and I played at the Westside/Lakeside area clubs. I attended elite level clinics, but was playing high school competition. My ego and my game got destroyed weekly in 8th grade, but I did get better.

I attended Stratford High School in Houston and played Varsity 1 doubles and eventually 1 singles for a majority of my time there.. my high school coach Rory Frazee, to this day still holds a special place in my heart.

I attended Texas A&M University and was fortunate to take my tennis skills and get a job teaching thru out college. I met another wonderful pro in College Station name Gordon Brynildsen. Gordon encouraged me to be a better teaching pro, run tournaments, be a site director, become an umpire, and become a certified USPTA Elite pro. Gordon believed in me more then I believed in myself. His influence made me stronger, and I truly appreciated all his help.

From age 19-27 I held loads of tennis titles as a teaching Pro:

  • Head Tennis Pro Royal Oaks Racket Club College Station,

  • Assistant Pro The Houston Country Club

  • Assistant Pro The Briar Club in Houston

  • Tennis Director/Pro Camp Schodack Albany NY,

  • Head Pro Galveston Health and Racket Club

Each one of these positions, fellow pros, and 100s of students taught helped me in a special way.

I thank the Game of Tennis for many days it made brighter in my life.

Love Always Coach K.
